Emily Griffith Technical College
1860 Lincoln St
Denver, CO 80203
Phone: (720) 423-4900
Notes: Emily Griffith has a lot of history in Colorado. They have a great welding shop that is modern and has all of the latest welding technology integrated into the program. The welding program covers all common welding processes (MIG/Flux Cored, TIG & Stick) on pipe and plate as well as metal cutting and blueprint reading.
I found it interesting that they also teach you how to weld more exotic metal such as magnesium, titanium and copper. This is not typical of most welding schools. I would like to see the program offer welder certification for AWS D1.1 and ASME Section IX though. With that being said you will have the skills necessary to pass those certifications on your own after you complete the welding program.

Other Options: Welding Training In Colorado – Welding Apprenticeships
Welding school may not be an option for you for a number of reasons. If money is a concern you will most likely be able to get a student loan, pell grant or other financial aid assistance to get into a welding school. If money is not the problem then I have a few other places you can get welding training in Colorado for free.
The boilermakers Union and the Ironworkers Union offer excellent opportunities for people that are interested in pursuing an apprenticeship program. Although these jobs entail much more than just welding it is an excellent opportunity to earn while you learn. From day one you will be paid an excellent wage, have no cost health insurance and have other great benefits.
Most apprenticeships whether boilermakers or Ironworkers will last 4 to 5 years. After you complete your apprenticeship you will be what is called a journeyman and earning a full wage. During your apprenticeship you will have training that is classroom-based as well as on-the-job training.
Welding is a large portion of the duties that are performed by Ironworkers and Boilermakers. You will learn several welding processes and also become a certified welder. You will also learn a number of other very important and useful skills such as rigging, blueprint reading, pipefitting and safety related material.
Colorado Boilermakers and Ironworkers enjoy a very generous pay that can reach up to over $30 per hour. This is an outstanding opportunity for anyone interested in this type of work to earn a paycheck while learning a new skill.
